Remember Sunday is Earth Day {it’s a Cog-Joint Event®©™}. I’ll be riding from Long Beach up the L.A. River trail to downtown Los Angeles then head west to the L.A. County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Wilshire just west of La Brea to join LACMA’s Earth Day festivities.  Mr. Michael Bauch {of Long Beach} will be showing his award winning documentary “Riding Bikes with the Dutch” at 2:oo pm in the Leo S. Bing Theater followed by a question and answer session.

Departure: 9:30 am (Clark & Atherton) with a short beer stop at Wurstküche (opens at 11:00) in the Arts District {DownTown L.A.} for libations and refreshments and then we’ll wander across the city to the museum.

The MexicanSongBird will roll the cog from the velo-nest at 9:25 to meet whoever shows up at Clark & Atherton.  Planned Route: north on Clark to Rosecrans, west to the River Trail, exit at Atlantic.

Who Love’s Ya Baby? Sunday is Earth Day {opportunity for another Cog-Joint Event®©™∏} and we’re gonna participate in the celebration by jacking our bikes from Long Beach up the L.A. River trail to downtown Los Angeles and head west to the L.A. County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Wilshire just west of La Brea to join LACMA’s Earth Day festivities.

Mr. Michael Bauch {Ultra Freddie Deluxe from Long Beach} will be showing his award winning documentary “Riding Bikes with the Dutch” at 2:oo pm in the Leo S. Bing Theater followed by a question and answer session {a.k.a. heckling - i.e., if you can’t give em grief, you can’t give em anything at all} with Michael so we gotta be in our seats at 2:00 well plied with inebriation acquired along the route so we can be in our best form.

Estimated departure: 9:30 am (Clark & Atherton) with a short beer stop at Wurstküche (opens at 11:00) in the Arts District {DownTown L.A.} for libations and refreshments and then we’ll wander across the city to the museum on an approach to the Westside.

NOTE: Free Admission to those with a helmet or bike parking receipt.

Visit LACMA’s website for additional jamble-jive-jimbles.

BLAMO!
CicLAvia April 2012: The streets in downtown Los Angeles were overflowingly crowded shoulder to shoulder, in both directions, curb to curb, with what seemed like a wondering horde of party seekers looking for fun and creating the celebration themselves, all at the same time, simultaneously, to jack-blast a gigantic festivity furnace into one of the biggest cities in the world and according to the L.A. Times  over one hundred thousand (100,000) people were on the streets and just like the last time I participated in CicLAvia everyone was simply so ecstatic with the opportunity to take to the streets there was not an ounce of hostility to be found which would make even the most cynical of cynics suspend their anxiety and maligned sense of humor to celebrate the apparent goodness of mankind.

No one ever wants the curtain to be drawn on a wildly successful production and you could find enough after-parties to continue the spirit of CicLAvia deep into the night.

At 5:15 it seemed like a good time to bid my farewells since the ride home would be a little harder with too much more celebration wingled into my brain.

Your next opportunity: Sunday, October 14, 2012 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m

seriously. what the hUH(?) is a bike shop s’Poz to be?   it’s time for shops to transform themselves to be more than just a repository of  bicycling merchandise for sale; ain’t that’s what(z) the douBle-U.dOUbLe-u.doUBle-yoU’z  {www} beez’n all’bout.

Maybe it’s a rough road to hoe (ya’hOE)  but the retail paradigm be shift’d.  Bike shops offer needed service and their expertise is indispensable but damn! somehow they must getz to participating more directly with the already emerged model and redefine themselves better within it.  it’yl getz loTz of work but they’z gotz to do it.

Dave Lettieri’s FasTrack bike shop {sANtA bARbArA, cA} is full of Lettieri Memorabilia of an accomplished and honorable bike racing career and lends depth to the store’s credibility and seriousness as a pro-shop.

As I’ve always said; “What’s the use of being better than everybody if you can’t criticize them {or Fred-Bust them}.”  Therein lies the inspiration behind Fred-Hunting.

The boyz are on their big-mileage binge getting ready for San Francisco to Long Beach, jacking themselves all up to get ready for the big adventure and on Friday a few went down to touch the proverbial gate [Camp Pendleton] and then backed it up to San Clemente on Saturday but Surf Coach and I turned around at Laguna City Limit and began a mellow ride, side by side, back to town, that is, until we caught up with the South African [super-fit, oiled and gleaned] and one of the peripheral Chronic-Freddies and given the hearty head-wind we knew the task.

First we took a nice long pull to set the tempo and then gave it up to our ultra-fit looking Afrikaner and the Chronic Freddie {Mr Enthusiasm}.  You gotta love it when a couple of neophytes battle themselves to death at the front, half-wheeling the shit out of each-other, slowing down, speeding up, wasting all their game and then happy when you announce it’s time to pace-line single file {because they think they’re gonna get a little respite} so you can proceed to thrash them to their last drop just to make the point they’re not as fit as they think, but neither am I.

In preparation for bike racing in masters events your fitness regimen has to have a plan.  DO  ya wanna jack the kings up the hill, sPlöûf Bubbles in the sprint and sPlîff the motor in the Peloton’s Party?

HCG* & Testosterone treatments can help keep men healthy jacked into old age.  There’s an excellent article about hormone therapy for men in the recent issue of Esquire Magazine (April 2012). It’s a worthwhile read.

According to the article it’s becoming more and more accepted as a therapy to fight the ailments of old-age.  It may not prolong life but it appears to provide your physiology extra leverage to fight against the degenerative effects associated with aging.

From the article: What are some signs of a hormone deficiency? Significant decreases in the condition of one or more of the five M(s): muscle mass, mojo, mood, memory and morning wood. {Boing . . .}

You gotta have a plan.  Start your hormone therapy now and stay tight lipped (for years).  When the Peloton creeps into geriatrics {it’s a process that’s already started} and no one else except you has attended the church of Whore-Moan Therapy, you’ll kick butt on their old saggy asses.

The lattice of coincidence is a powerful jacqi’maux co$Mic force.

Today I happened to photograph some head badges at the Bicycle Stand (1824 East Broadway, just west of Cherry) and later, as serendipity demands, I discovered the artist, Angelina Elise, is having an art opening at Jet Studios in Long Beach.

You know you want one. WHo’s gonna be first to get a custom head badge.  I love this shit.  The one on the left should be official team issue.

Here’s an opportunity to discover something new in Long Beach: Jet Studios.  Visit their tumbler site to see other events they’re hosting.

I’m going. Who’s in?  There’s always drinking at art openings.  Gotta Love It.

Bad ass: Campagnolo Knife

This is an item floating around the net but I can’t locate a retail source so as to satisfy the Campy-Fetish Fix [cFF]. It doesn’t exist in Campy’s catalog either.   What the jack!?   It’s something you’d be sure to find in the Bunny Boy’s back pocket.

Don’t be met’n wit da’Buni-Boy.
