Blah.Blah.Quote.o'Day:
Men invented war so they could be among themselves. In peacetime, they have bike racing.
~Gabriele Rolin

The Log Roller is Surly’s cool variation on a classic.  The Pugsley [also by Surly] is a mountain style hard-tail frame designed to run very over-sized tires; go where other bikes tremble with fear . You can put mondo tires on this frame [ up to 4" on 26" rim].  The rims are impressively wide and the tires are simply cool. Dunno what’ya would wanna do that’s outta the ordinary but it’s inviting.  It could be some kind of recovery vehicle for champagne’d events.  I love this bike.  I wanna have one sitting in the garage just to remind me of the possibilities awaiting. The bike fills me with inspiration.  Look at the fun it’s inspired here!

It’s Animaux.

iNTeRbiKE>2011

One of the most significant developments I saw the first day of the show [Wednesday] was Campy’s electro-mechanical derailleurs.

The components were installed on bikes at the Pinarello booth.

Not yet available for Freddies to buy.

Back to the show.  Walking is brutal ! !

Dorothy! Diz AiN’T Copenhagen!

According to Wikipeida:  Burning Man is a week-long annual stage race held in the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada. The final stage of the event ends in a mass sprint on Labor Day and the prologue takes place the previous Monday [2011, August 29 to September 5].  The name comes from the ritual of burning of a large wooden cyclist on Saturday evening and is described by many as an experiment in you’re-weakism & radical-freddiedumb [see freddie on the left].

The peloton for 2011 was capped at 50,000 freddies and the field was full up on July 24.

Bicycles are essential and omnipresent at Burning Man.  More than 2,000 bikes were left behind this year as shown in this photograph.  From: SFCitizen.com

“Well, how did you like the bike racers?”
“Good. They were nice bike racers.”
“They’re all right, but they’re not too good.”
“What didn’t you like about them?”
“I don’t know. They just didn’t give me the feeling that they were so good.”
“I know what you mean.”
“They’re all right.”

As a follow-up to the last post, here’s a photo of the Hirondelle bicycle that was featured in the video [something for the bicycle aficionado who appreciates beautiful machinery with historic significance].  Click on the image to see a larger version   :)

And while we’re on the subject of Cycle Chic, here’s another example of chic that propels the movement.

Hirondelle is the name of the bike made by Manufrance’s bicycle company created in 1885; this was France’s first modern bicycle.

Cycle Chic is a burgeoning World Phenomenon.  It was  started in Copenhagen by Mikael Colville-Andersen.  He has 17,000+ photos on Flickr documenting his vision of what it means to be Cycling Chic in Copenhagen and other cities around the world.  [Based on a non-scientific analysis, about 90% {the photos I've seen} are beautiful women on bikes].

Here’s a video featured on CycleChic and its description by Mikael:   “This is brilliant. A cool film feat. Australian Cycle Chic for Bondi Beach Cruisers made by +61 Collective.   Cycle Chic is lovin’ this  . . .

BlahBlahFreddie is Lovin’It { I think the appeal is . . . well, due to its Trés Chic quality }
